Display went black can't get back up.

Was playing Medieval 2 Total War. All of a sudden my monitor lost the video signal or something. Right in the middle of the game the screen went black. The monitor went into sleep mode as if it wasn't receiving a video signal. The computer itself let out a moderately long "beeep" and then just sat there. I haven't been able to get the image back since even after I checked the connections and reboot my computer.

Is my card fried or could it be something else?

my build is:

Athlon 3200+
1 GIG dual channel RAM
Nvidia 6800GT PCI Express
MSI K8N NEO4-F nForce4
80GB hard drive

Monitor is a ViewEra, all parts are less than a year old.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Have you tried hooking up a known working monitor Davis to see if it is the card or the monitor?
My moneys on the card but anyway.........
 
Took your advice and the other monitor worked. Strangely enough my other monitor is working now too...I don't know what gives but thanks for the advice.

:confused: try your original monitor that didn't work on your original system on a known working system, if it works then the problem is with the grfx card[ot]if there is a fan on the grfx card is it functioning smoothly[/ot]try reseating the grfx card, if it still doesn't work try a different (known working) grfx card
 
Pull both RAM sticks and power the system on. If it beeps (and it should), try each stick individually...powering it off before, of course.

Also, clear CMOS (your motherboard manual should state where this jumper is).

Lastly, what power supply do you have? Make and model?q
