Me and my friends all use Nero 6.6 for regular burning( cd and dvd data etc..) and use Nero Recode with AnyDVD for burning DVD movies and such. If you intend to burn DVD videos you 'could' use DVD Shrink 3.2 as a free alternative and does a pretty good job.
Occasionally ill use CloneDVD 3 for movies.
For watching movies i use WinDVD 7 and occasionally PowerDVD 6.

I hope I don't get lynched here for making a software question on a hardware forum, but how do you split mpegs into two files, so you can burn large movies to dvd?

did you buy an OEM version? if so then thats why you didnt get software/cables or anything. Also try DeepBurner as another burning program if you didnt get any with it.
