F*k'd Hard Disc

Ok,

I have (sitting in front of me) a friends "Quantum Fireball" HD.... with 2 YEARS of photo's on it and guess what! they forgot to take a backup!!!! (fool/s!!!)

Capacity = unknown (but was bought about 4-6 years ago)

I tried using a HD caddy to get it working (but that failed) :(

-uninstalled the device, re-installed the device (failed) ~cries~
-unpluged, repluged the caddy (failed) :swear:

Device manager says "The device is unable to start" but the disk is definetly spinning cos the case vibrates when you turn in on!!! ;)

btw, the Friend is a teacher @ school! (but still a friend..... waits for insults from hwf users)

HWF hasnt failed me on anything yet, please dont this time!!! PLEASE

Im looking for ANY idears that dont involve magic or miricles!

Well that didnt work, so when did it stop working? any strange noises?
You could try putting it in and use linux to try and recover the data, you'd need linux installed for that though i think, have you tried using something like Partition magic to create an image of the hard drive?

It stoped working 2 years ago! (only just got my hands on it ;))

The problem is that windoze wont even recognise it as a storage device.... it recognises (but only in device manager) that there is a usb device (but it wont say what type of device it is)

My real suspision is that the disk is physicaly "F*k'd" but i dont want to give up yet.

2 years ago! blimey, okay erm...have you tried contacting the manufacturer to see if they have anything to say?
hmmm i am clueless sorry, maybe someone else can give some advice
