Free Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

Well the only advantage of going to Windows 64Bit Edition is that you can run 64Bit programs.

And i would check the requirement of this 64Bit Edition as i believe it requires a minimum of 512MB to run. So unless you've got over 1GB of memory you'll probably see a decrease in performance gaming / video editing wise. Due to having to use your swap file.
 
If I were you guys, i wouldn't bother to install it yet. I can't help but think it's going to be buggy, being that it's in its first stages. Plus, like procal said, it is "good" because it runs 64-bit programs. The problem is that there aren't any out yet. I'd just wait a bit for bugs to get worked out further then install. Of course, if you dont mind starting all over for an OS probably not as good as the one you're running, than i guess it might be fun for you... ;)

On top of that - it does need a ridiculous amount of RAM!
 
Well waiting for all the bugs to be discovered/ironed out has been what people using XP has been doing ever since. ;)
 
Thanks everyone, I'll wait a while then. I remember when the beta (or was it alpha) version was just out and I saw a review of it on some AMD site. It was total crap compared to the non-64 XP in almost all the tests, gaming for example was twice as slow, if I recall correctly.
 
If you want 64Bit operating systems get SuSe 64Bit or Gentoo 64Bit linux - there are alot of Linux Distros out with 64Bit compatibility.

Will it be possible to do a dual boot with XP Pro & the 64bit edition?
I'm getting a new rig this week and want to try out this version but don't want to :swear: up the rest of my working system.
 
I have 512 ram, 2gigahertz AMD Athlon XP processor, Windows XP Home Edition and SIS661 FX display adapter. What do I need to upgrade to be 64bit compatible?

Not only do you not need to, your hardware is incapable of running it. You have a 32-bit CPU. :)
