GeForce 5700 not working

Hi
My name is Roy.

I have built my own computer(1st go at this and I have limited knowledge) and used an ASUS A8V-MX motherboard. I have disabled the intergreated graphics and tried to install a GeForce FX5700 oc 256mb DDR AGP 8x/4X card.

The power is getting to the card as the cards fan works but for some reason the monitor will not work!! I then conected the monitor directley to the card. this made the monitor work but all I get is a blank screen. What am I doing wrong?

This system I have built also take over 3 mins to boot up from cold. Is this normal? All I have installed is Windows XP Home.

Can anyone help.

Check on your graphics card, is there some sort of 4 pin connect on it?
there might be a 4 pin Molex connector on wich are the same as hdd's use for power.


i think it may be normal, my old system takes about that to boot up, as it goes through all the bios screen and this lan boot thing.

There is no four pin power point on the card

Not at the mo. Poss get the guy who sold it to me to put it back in his. You think it may be faulty?
 
hmm, could be, i am wondering if it could be a setting in your bios.
can you get onto the windows xp splash screen? if so, before the xp loading screen comes up, press f8, and boot up in vga mode, and see if you can boot like that.

Sorry to sound patronising but eerrrr what?

In my job (mortgage advisor) I understand LIBOR rate. Overhang period & if you asked what a LTV was then I could give you an understandable answer. Computers are a different story.

I would be able to press f8 at start up but what happens next sort of scares me.. vga mode???? Should I just try tonight & see what happens?

when you go into VGA mode, it loads, but with all graphics disabled, and its just basic 16-bit colours and very low res, if it loads up windows, this will indicate that it is indeed not a faulty video card you have, and must be that you have not installed the drivers correctly, and or not disabled the intergrated graphics, or it could possible be a setting in your bios.

when you press fx, do you see options like, vga mode, safe mode, safe mode with networking, last known good configuration etc......

yes, i would try tonight and see what happens :)


also, when booting in safe mode, you will notice, that when you get into windows, the default xp theme will be changed to windows classic whilst in safe mode, also, the background will be gone, and it will say safe mode and build of your windows xp version etc..., your computer starts with the minimum amount of programs loaded up as possible, and you can troubleshoot problems easier in safemode i think, i never found any use for it, exept when i couldent boot up normally for some reason.

so yes, try booting in VGA Mode.
