getting a 7600gt but

well i no its a 256 ddr3 card and the 7600gs is a 512 ddr2 whats the difference cos surely a 512 is better than a 256 im not too sure and everyone has said go for the 7600gt and need to make sure cos im ordering next week. from overclockers uk.

Hey there, actually ram size, provided it's over 128MB's isn't going to make a difference in all but the most intensive and demanding games. While this would be fairly important if you were looking at two bleeding edge cards but, while great midrange cards, neither of these will benifit from 512MB of memory. The card will run out of steam well before extra video memory comes into play.
The GS has much lower clockspeeds than the GT version, other than that and the ram size (and speed, DDR3 being faster and more overclockable), they're essentually the same card. But the GT is easily superior due to vastly higher clockspeeds.
 
also just wondering if the following games will be able to run on decent settings on the 7600gt .

quake4
doom3
hitman blood money
battlefield 2
prey
half-life 2

etc

All depends on the rest of your system specs, my friend. But if you have a good computer with a 7800 GT, you should be able to run these games very well. Hell, I have a 6800 GS and I can run:

Quake 4 (highest settings)
Doom 3 (highest)
Haven't tried Blood Money
Nor BF 2, but I suspect the same
Prey (highest)
HL2 (highest)

You should be fine! Have fun with that!
 
along with the 7600gt its a athlon 64 4000+ 2.2ghz with 1gb ram and 250gb hdd 80gbb hdd and dvd rom + dvd rw

plus other bits
 
Heheeh! Then I should think your rig would be more than adequite to deal with today's hardware-intensive games! Try Oblivion and see how much you can crank it.
 
The basic "can I run this?" test for games is, if your computer can handle Oblivion, it can handle anything at else out now. That game is super GPU intensive with everything turned up. But yeah all those games listed are going to scream on that rig as it's got a great proc and some nice ram to back up a real quality midrange card. It helps that most of those games are OpenGL based so they run well on nVidia cards to begin with.
