I hate the registry crap. I tried to change some permissions to a few keys in the registry so that I can use ms office WHILE I am online with my mobile modem as the interface of the mobile modem prevents word from being loaded - it says something about errors and stuff. now, the office registry keys have lost their owner and lock even the administrator account out.

does anyone know of a nice good way, execept, killing fcking Vista, to delet the office reg key? bypassing the permissions stuff? or a automated way to reset the permissions? anything that can allow me to erradicate the stupid ms office?

subinacl.exe doesn't work -- it says the same thing.

So, short n' crispy - the permissions on the Office registry keys and its childs have "lost" their owner and their whole permission list, thus, ANYONE who attempts to edit or even view it, has to go to permissions->and add a owner+access list. This cannot then be applied to the child elements as they don't have an owner either and error that out. Thus, I would have to edit the permissions for 100+ keys manually. which, sucks bigtime sht, to say the least.

Damn, I've not been so pissed since a long time...
 
Personally, I have yet to have a problem with Vista, and I have been using it daily since before it was out for gaming, work, development, everthing.

As far as your issue, have you tried safe-mode? Are you logged into an administrative account? Admin accounts can remove anything from the registry...
 
How is it useless? Login as administrator and give watever account you're using now admin rights. Or reformat and make the new default account admin.

You can't edit the registry if you aren't an admin...
 
Vista is good for me it's your personal problem. I am agree with athomas.
 
Well then something is fucked up with rights or something, I'd reformat. I've never heard of that issue...
 
I use vista and i've had no problems what so ever! had some problems to begin with but once you know to 'run as admin' everythings fine. Then again i'm not using it for complicated thing like changing the registry or anything :D
 
Yep thanks Sniper it's working!

I've tried to get used to Vista 3 times, and it's p*ssed me off 3 times to the point of putting XP back on! It's so slow, and offers no advantages over XP for me (DX10 doesn't matter).

I know 'Windows 7' is supposedly going to be a lot better, but they've taken out the 'classic' (better) start menu!! I won't be in a hurry to switch to that!

Sorry, edjis, I have no suggestions; I don't even use vista (still with xp pro).

I think that defeats the purpose of all the added safety features added in Vista, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

NOT TRUE, i know this kid, met him in class, he defended Vista over all else, your not alone, there are many a vista "fanboys" out there. (lol, j/k pimp)
 
If the Administrator does not have permissions for an object you must take ownership of that object. Taking ownership will grant the administrator full control again. You can take ownership by clicking the Advanced button in the security tab and then clicking the Owner tab.

LOL. I am a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. If I didn't know that then I'd be doing something wrong don't you think? :)
 
yes, I have to take the ownership of each and every of those keys and that means doing this op 1000 times over. and that sucks. so, is there any way to take the onwership automatically (naive hope, but still...)? Thanks for all the support (thanks darussiaman), guys . btw i'm still fighting with this thing and it's FUBAR. At one point, the computer lost its sound... dunno. I guess I had one of the worst possible encounters with vista...
 
Take ownership at the root level and choose to "Apply to all child objects".

In fact, rather then doing the above I think a better solution would be to reapply the default set up security template. This will reset all the permissions in the registry to their default settings.

I can't be arsed to explain how to do that because it would take me too long to type it all up. But basically Google "reapply setup security inf using Security Configuration and Analysis snapin".
