GPU slow... any ideas?

I have an nvidia 7900 gtx, 512 mb and everything. It runs anywhere between 43-47 degrees celcius at any given time, so it's not way overheating or anything. I've been getting some pretty crappy framerate with it lately, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make that better... When I first got it, I was getting a rating of about 150 fps on the CS Source stress test, and now I'm getting about 60... Definitely a significant drop...

Any help would be appreciated!

Try killing anything thats running that doesnt need to be (Like Limewire etc). If that doesnt work, kill more! :P

also disable anything with doesnt need to run when the computer starts (start > run > msconfig).

The Graphics card is fine, its windows that is the problem! (when i used it, i normally re-installed every 1-3 months).

mmm, im gonna try a couple of things. i just got the newest driver. small tangent here, but i'm running on windows xp 64 bit edition, and theres not much out that will run on that... maybe worthy of another thread altogether... but ill definitely try booting out anything thats running. i use msconfig all the time for startups. i have a 550watt power supply, which is sli ready, so i know thats not the problem...

oh well, ill keep y'all updated on how it goes. in the meantime, any more ideas would be appreciated :)

CS: Source is supposed to be a little buggy last I heard.

Have you tried other games, like Quake 4, FEAR or Oblivion?
Do you have your chipset drivers for your motherboard installed?

yeah, latest chipsets. im assuming it probably is cs source. i ran fear on this machine whenever i first got it, and oh was it sexy :)

Try playing something heavy like FEAR or Doom 3 again and see if you're getting the problems still. If you don't have the games, the demos are still around. Of course, Doom 3 is like $20 new these days...

Defrag, malware and virii are what I'd look at first.

Maybe you turned vsync on without noticing (unlikely I know) ?
