graphics card help

i made a new computer a few days ago and the graphics card was working fine ( 7950gt xfx) but today i took it out and reinserted it, however now my computer cant detect it, ive tried removing and reinserting it a few times and even reinstalling drivers etc, with no luck, any ideas as to what i could do?
 
first of all it could be fried from static electricity but i bet you made sure your grounded yourself before touching it.
if your motherboard has onboard video maybe somehow the bios got reset and it is outputting the video through the onboard and your will have to disable it to get your card to work.
thats all i can think of maybe anyone else have any idea?
 
i dunno if this matters but the heatsink on the graphics card still got warm, if it was fried would that even happen?
 
Its hard to fry something like a graphics card to the point where it isnt detected... your likely to find its unstable if static has affected it. You'd need a hell of a lot of static to totally destroy a pci/agp card, probably more than you could create by accident.

What do you mean your computer cant detect it? Is it windows which cant detect it or do you get a blank screen when you turn the pc on?

If its windows which doesnt detect it id go into BIOS, make sure any onboard graphics you might have is disabled and also make sure you have told BIOS what type of card it is. Ive never used PCIe so I dont know if its relevant but I know you had to say whether its PCI or AGP on older systems.

EDIT: You said you tried reinstalling the drivers so im guessing its windows? I would personally uninstall the drivers and wait until windows says its found new hardware before reinstalling them.
 
There is a 12v power supply rail that goes into all Geforce 7 series cards...make sure this is properly connected and functioning..also, what PSU are you using? This is a leading cause in GPU detection errors. Ive had these myself and I just had to replace my PSU. Also recheck and ensure the fittings of all cables that go with the card. The best way to know whether the card is damaged or not is by a shrill high frequency continuous tone that is audible upon turning on the system, check and make sure this is not the case. In other cases, there will be an audible note saying 'System Failed VGA test'. Also, if all else fails, dont forget to contact the card vendor or the manufacturer if you still have the warranty.
