Hi...

First my specs:

i7920 stock . H50 cooled
asrock x58 deluxe mobo
6gb kingston value 1333
gtx295 dual-pcb
500 gb samsung spinpoint eco (5400 rpm :/ )
LC power maetron 850 watt
2x samsung syncmaster nw2343 @2048x1152

it first started 2 weeks ago when my gtx295 didnt wannit to show 2048x1152 reso on my second monitor ? only full hd.
I got really annoyed and bought a gt430 as my second monitor and worked fine. Ran for like 3-4 days whitout any problems.
Then it started freezing my pc.. and my gtx295 was lighting red instead of yellow/green.

that suddenly stopped after a day or two ? and ran normaly again.
today it started freezing, I could move the mouse for about 50 sec after the freezing started, but that was all. The gtx295 didnt light red this time, just normal colour.

To addition, ive just cleaned my gfx and the idle temp is like 60celcius, and work is like 80 celcius (think 170-180 Fahrenheit. - sry im from europe)

So now im wondering, is my gtx295 burned ? or is it my PSU ? or my RAM ?

How can i sort this out..
Ive tryed lettin my friend use the gtx295 in his rig for about a day, he had no problem ?

REALLY Hope you can help me whit this

Hi,

I just read that the light on your gtx 295 will light up green if it is receiving proper power, and the second light should light up as blue if it is the primary display card in a sli setup. Since your green light is now red, it seems as if the card is not getting the power it needs, or at least not a steady supply of it. I would say there is an issue going on with your power supply. If you have another power supply you could test with, I would try swapping it out with that one. If you dont have one, maybe your friend who tested the video card could let you borrow his for a day to see if it works in your computer with your card. If you want to test the ram in your computer, you can download and run Memtest86+. If it comes up with errors when you run it, it means some of your ram is bad and should be replaced. Also, you could try booting the computer with a single stick of ram installed. If it runs ok, then swap it out with another stick, then another and so on so you can isolate a bad ram stick that way if you have one. In this situation though, I would try another power supply first based on what the led on your video card is telling you (red led for power).

Thanks Wildcard!
Nice to get your suspicious confirmed.
Ive only got a 500 watt psu spare, and i dont think its enough at all. (got alot fans and stuff in case)

Ill try the memtest89+ and if it shows nothing ill try replacing the PSU.

Is memtest something you can run in windows ? or from bootable device ?

Ive just ran a Memram86+ to check for eventually memory failure. showed nothing.

What psu would you reccomend for this setup:

Haf X whit 3x200mm fans, 4 x 80 mm fans
i7 920 + H50 + 2 fans
asrock x 58 deluxe
gtx295 + gt430
1 eco hdd
5.25" bay heat monitoring

is 850 watt enough ?

Hi,

I used this wattage calculator http://www.antec.outervision.com/PSUEngine and I think 850watts should work according to that. It seems that your gtx295 is a pretty power hungry card. I set it to SLI and the total came out around 808 watts, but when I did the same thing for the gt430 it was under 500 watts for the whole system, so running both of them I would assume would be somewhere under 800watts for the whole setup. You may want to try it yourself though, as I am not sure if you are doing water cooling in your system or not... I didnt include that in the calculations when I did it. When you are looking at power supplies, its worth it to spend the money for a good quality one, because some of the cheaper ones, even if they say they are rated for 850watts, may not provide the power you need on the specific rails. In the powersupply section of the forums, BigB wrote a sticky with recommended brands of good quality power supplies. In my computers, I have had good luck with the thermaltake toughpower units, as well as the PC Power and Cooling brand.
