HL1 had a bit of a better storyline than 2, well, not hard because 2 didn't have one. I still think the best project with FPS games is the remake of Doom 1 with Doom 3's graphics.
Yeah that's pretty cool but what makes Doom so much different from D3? With the same engine it might end up looking like another expansion pack.
Doom 1 has less of an attempted storyline, Doom 3 started off with getting some kind of storyline. Doom 1 you just went from on level to another and only found there was a plot when you finished the game.
Well that's sort of good I guess, I bought the collectors edtion for my friend b-day so I've seen it. Yeah no plot other than kill everything, kind of like Serious Sam.
Pre-1998 FPS' never really had storylines. If they did, it was most likely a simple one you could summarize in a sentence.
And console games really didn't have a story line, think about all those SNES games for instance, cool as they were you were almost always just thrown in the thick of it. The opening screen usually gave you a visual synopsis. Though Metroid and Zelda were exceptions.
Don't forget Shadowrun for the SNES, now that had a storyline to be proud of. If you like Serious Sam then try for Painkiller, in essence it's basically Serious Sam with better weapons and better graphics.
Already played most of it, yeah the gfx and weapons are sweet but after a while it just gets a little to repetitive I suppose. I want to fishish it sometime but I returned the disks to my friend a while ago I do want to play SS sometime though
SS1 is more repetetive than Painkiller, the storyline is weaker too. Although there is something satisfying about blowing away HORDES of monsters with a minigun...
