hard drive issue

I'm working with two old computers here. I have an emachines with windows xp on the hard drive and it works fine. But when I stick that hard drive into another tower (an HP that came with Windows ME), all it does is turn on, tells me the hard drive has been detected, beeps once and the screen goes black except for a blinking cursor at the top. I've used a 30-day trial of XP on this HP machine before, so I can't figure out why the emachines hard drive won't work in the HP machine. I've already tried playing with the jumper with no luck.

when you plug in the hard drive from the emachine to the other tower, does it have xp installed into it? You should try format the drive and then plugging it in the other tower.

Hi,

XP wont run in that way. XP is too much dependent of the hardware, so you wont be able to bring the hard drive from one PC to another completely different. You can do that if you are assembling two PC with the same hardware(MB and CPU mainly) .
You need to reinstall XP in the other PC.
