yo.. k i have a 80 gig hdd and i am buying a 160 gb , do i really need to put my 80 gig as a second harddrive cuz i barely used 5 percentage memory on te 80 gig.. plus my computer restarts constantly.. ppl said it was ram so i spent 2500 buks on new ram, that didnt fix it, so now i am left down to the HDD and or CPU but i dobut its my cu .. so .. sice its a possibility of my hdd being messed up sohuld i just take it out and replace with double the space i dont see why its bad? or should i use 2 drives?!!
 
If your running WindowsXP, make sure you do all the updates, hard drives wont cause your computer to reboot unless its screwing your power supply. Your cpu would only cause your computer to reboot if it's damaged or overheating.

IF you only use 5% don't get a new hdd, just use the old one since you dont need any more space.

Ram will only cause your system to screw if you've got bad ram, and since the problem still exists, you probably wasted a bunch of money on ram
 
nah im deffinantly upgrading to a 160 gb hd for 70 bucks thats awsome.. so nayways the reason i use 5% is because if i install UT2004 thats 5 gigs , BFV thats 3 gigs, plus other games like 20 gigs.. i want a 160 gb thats just what i want .. my main question is wen i get it.. shoudl i just ake the other one out or use the 80 gig as a backup or do i need it.. it seems like more work to me.. i dont think i need 160gb PLUS 80.. wut do u think?
 
I don't think you'll need another drive, I have a 120gig, a doom3, steam with all clients, a few other large games and some large programs, plus 3 full DVD rips, and 28 full cd's.
I'm only using around 20-30 gigs.

BUT I have a seperate partition for ALL of my music. I will not lose my music it is my precious. If you want, you could use that 80gig as a seperate MEDIA harddrive for all your movies, music videos pictures and all your miscellanious program install files.

I have like 8 cd images on a seperate partition just incase I need to install windows AGAIN I have the cd's able to run right off my hard drive. VERY USEFUL.
 
ye on my pc i have No music Nor DVDS just games.. i want this pc ran off games basically it.. if i wanna dl music.. ill dl it put it on a cd then delete afterwards
or i can use music on this hdd (160gb) cuz it doesnt take that much up if if i do donwload songs the max would be like 50 song.s.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
just use 160gb
or use 80 gig
80 seems troubleseome im a cpc nub i can just remove the 80 and use the wires in exact place

Swirly, Windows XP reboots automatically whenever it crashes. Instead of displaying the infamous "Blue Screen of Death", it just restarts without warning. Are you sure it is your hardware being unstable, and not just your OS?

I suggest you do not buy another hdd. It might be cheap, but it's also worthless since you don't use a quarter of your current one.

If it was me, I'd probably just reinstall Windows. Like someone said before me ( ;) ), once a system has been compromised, I can't ever trust it again.
 
Theres no need to get rid of your old drive. Reinstall Windows then if it still restarts then look elsewhere for problems not your hard drive, as replacing your hard drive won't fix it. BTW, if you're gonna buy a new hard drive then make sure you get an 8mb cache one not 2mb.

i odnt know how to install a harddrive i figured just tkae the cables off and switch mine but doding two will be difficult.. plsu how od i formta a seperate HDD i odnt know this shit i do know hwo to format one hDD ths will be hard explain wut i sohuld do ..
and/if i have two drives how to manage them and set them up

Personally i think the 160 gb will be easiest but iwant the expert answerr thankx =) :good:
 
First: What makes you think the hard drive is defective?
Second: Isn't there anything you want to save on this drive? If so, you will want to have both drives hooked up at some point...unless you plan to burn all this to CD/DVD.

Actually, you can have both HDD's hooked up. Setting the jumpers on these drives is about the hardest part here, and that's pretty easy with some needle-nose pliers or a good set of tweezers. Seriously, it's really not that much extra effort to have both working. You can store so much ...err, data with 240GB.

Formatting can be done from within Windows, if you have 2000 or XP.
However, you'll need SP4 for 2000 and at least SP1 for XP to fully recognize the 160GB capacity of the new hard drive. There's a barrier of 137GB that needs to be passed for the OS to recognize the entire capacity.
 
Your PSU may be the problem... If it's a generic PSU, you probably don't have enough amperage for all of your components, and the wattage in actuality is probably more like 200watt. What do your
power rails look like in the BIOS?
 
haha im not sure.. well my 80 gig is all spywared up since 5 seconds ago so im mad.. plus... how do i know if i have service pack 1 .. all i did was instal widnows and no upodating!!

If you've never updated, and you don't have a router, you probably have a lot worse than spyware on your system... :swt:

A service pack is a large update package containing a myriad of smaller updates. Windows XP is on SP2, and Windows 2000 is on SP4. NT4, which is no longer supported by MS, was on SP6a. In other words, its a major system update. The easiest way to tell if you're service packed is to alternate-click on My Computer and click Properties.
