HDTV instead of a Monitor

Is it worth getting a HDTV instead of a monitor? I am not going to buy any at the moment, just wants to confirm so in future if I would like to get one on lease then I should have knowledge about it. Thanks

yes and no, really. it's worth considering the ups and downs of it. viewing angles and high resolutions, these are things you might want to consider. but if you're not fussy about that, i believe you'll enjoy it very much. Also, the connections are a bit more varied than a monitor (mostly VGA or DVI, very rare to find monitors with svideo etc.) on the other hand, you need a HDTV card to get the channels, provided there's no inbuilt HDTV tuner. Dell has been selling some great LCDS, they come in 20' - 23' sizes. they're all great value. they have bountiful cable selections and great viewing angles and quality. Remember though, if you don't want the high resolutions and better image quality, you're better off buying Dell's 23' LCD monitor.

looks good. plenty of inputs and outputs. how much is it? if it were, at least below 2000 bucks, i would buy it. you can't really trust specs, you have to see to believe, look for viewing angles, ghostings, etc. but on the other side, the contrast looks pretty good, i would use it to watch my dvds....
 
Upto now, the only main thing which I notice before buying a TV/Monitor is their contrast Ratio and Response time. What is ghostings and what are the things which I have to notice before buying it?

I think its much more expensive than 2000 bucks. The website I was looking, just lease the products. So initial minimum payment is around 800 bucks and then you have to pay around 80$ per week for 36 months. which will cost more than $10,000 NZD
 
response times is measured in miliseconds. that's how long it takes for the image on screen to respond. ghosting is the trails you see when you game (it leaves a ghost) a low resonse time is great for this, but a low response time can present bad viewing angles, so that response time of 8ms is ok. i didn't see that size, so i think the price is pretty good.

edit:for gaming, i wouldn't get a monitor or tv with a response time above 8ms.
 
looking straight into it from the front will give you the best picture quality. if the lcd has bad viewing angles, when you view from the right, left, bottom or top of the tv, it will look like your old picture negatives. i'm not saying it will completely disfigure the picture (only on extreme angles will it happen) but it's very annoying.
