Help! My Laptop Is Nearly Frying

I have an old HP Compaq 6510b laptop with 3 GB DDR II RAM, 80 GB Hard drive (still working fine), running Windows 7 Pro.

I had installed speedfan a couple months ago, but then removed it from the startup and forgot about it.

Today, I was working with my lappy and it started heating too much in less than 5 minutes. That was when I thought I should check the CPU and mobo temps, and started Speedfan.

It seems I had started a full scan in BitDefender and that was constantly keeping the CPU at 100%. The remote temp. reached 100 degrees centigrade and I could smell something frying.

Fortunately, I was able figure this out quickly, and stopped the full system scan. Then shutdown the lappy, for a while. Now, the CPU isn't at 100% anymore, BUT the temps are still very high.

I slept for a while and restarted the lappy after I woke up. You can see the initial temps. in the first speedfan screenshot. Been running since half an hour and you can see the temps in the second screenshot.

Except the hdd temp, all other temps. are over 80 degrees centigrade.

Is there anything I can do to lower the temps.? Any help appreciated.

Probably CPU cooling system is broken. You may try to clear dust with pressurized air or open laptop for better cleaning. Latter one have more risks however.
 
Make sure the rear of the laptop is off the ground and NOT siting on your lap... Always have the rear lifted up on something so it can breath..Check the intake to see if it is clogged.
 
I use a belkin laptop cooling stand, even though without using the fan because it makes too much noise.

Will try to open it. Would it be okay to use an electric blower to blow air into the vent at the side?

Compressed air cans are 1/2 to 1/3rd of the price of this blower, so a blower would be cheaper.

Even without running Bitdefender full system scan, the temp. goes above 90 degrees centigrade, after 2-3 hours of use.

This must have been happening since long but I may not have been aware of this till yesterday, before running Bitdefender.
 
Yea! 90 degrees is to high, You will have to watch blowing air into the outlet, It might fix it and it might make it worst. You might have to take it apart and check all the fans and check for clog's..
 
Taking it apart might be better. I found a guide here.

BTW, can someone tell me why the Temp5 in Speedfan is always 100C?

It never changes. What part of the mobo always remains at exactly 100 degrees?
 
You may not be surprised, but the problem resolved. :)

How? I blowed air from my mouth into the left side (fan/heatsink) vent about 8-10 times.

After I powered on, the temps. were more than 50% lower. Even the 100 degrees celsius which remained constant, came down to exactly 50. Stayed around that for 1.5 hours.

Right now, the CPU core and remote temps are 62/64 degrees and local temp is 51. Should be fine now, I guess?

BUT, Speedfan doesn't show fan speed or fan running at all. Does that mean that the fan may be faulty? Previously there used to be fan sound - speeding up and slowing down, now it's not there at all.
 
Yes, will keep an eye. Actually, I'll open it this weekend, as I only need to remove the keyboard to access the heatsink and fan.

I guess, there must have been some dust bunnies in the heatsink slots which must now be on the motherboard or near the fan.
