Help needed with Azureus or other bittorrent clients

Hi everyone. Does it matter what port I open in my router for using Azureus? I'm trying it out (trying to try it out, anyway... if I can actually get everything to work...), but I'm a total n00b to this stuff. And Azureus doesn't seem to have a very helpful guide to get me started, or maybe I'm just too hopeless of a n00b... Anyway, there's an option in it to specify which port I want it to use. It had some default value set for it when I launched it for the first time after installation, but should I go with that? Maybe I should change it to a different port? Does it matter which port I use?? I haven't opened it up on my router yet, btw... And also, I'm using winxp pro if that's relevant.

i don't think your alowed to talk about bit-torrent clients, or anything relating to torrents
 
Erm yes we are. Azureus is even recommended in the sticky Free Software thread in the General Software section. And if you do a search for "torrent" there are lots of threads that come up, one of which is a 2 or 3 page discussion about all the different bittorrent clients that people use and like. So if you can help me, I'd much appreciate it!
 
cool; im not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter, I use the same bit-torrent client, and I just typed a random 4 set of numbers as my port... 6###, but you'll need that exact number to allow incoming traffic and outgoing traffic through your firewall and router

rgiht beside the default value set, there should be a button "test", click on that, if it says 'OK" in the bottom, your good

after u set up your router, go to the routers control panel throguh the browser, the address is usually your ip address, and allow that specific port number to allow incoming and outgoing traffic, there should be a menu relating to ports
