Help no sound

Could anyone help, i have no sound on my laptop not even headphone's work, all drivers are ok, ok in device manager, nothing is muted, everything is enabled in BIOS, i don't know what else to try.
 
Have you tried going into Device Manager and disabling/enabling the sound card? If that doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling it and see what happens. Does your sound card have specific drivers that go with it, and if so, are they up to date? Also, is this a new problem? Has your sound ever worked on your laptop?
 
What i did was format c drive and re installed win xp the sound worked fine but then i did a format on D and E drive and thats when i lost the sound, ive updated the drivers but it still does not work.
 
Hmmm..very odd. What did you have on drives D and E? Anything important, such as system files, etc? Did you try uninstalling/reinstalling the sound device?
 
D and E drives were Backup and Recovery but i also have a recovery disc so i didn't think i needed them so i did the format for more space, i reinstalled the sound card drivers but with no luck.
