I am building my first PC. Please help me if I hade the right choices.

My budget is around $1000. I asked a friend for help, and this is what he suggested me.
I will be strictly using this PC for gaming. Does duo cord and quad cord make a lot of difference?
I am going to play with the best setting possible, up to what the computer can handle.


If there is anything missing to build PC, please tell me so too.

I see that you are getting Most of your parts @ Newegg .... Now Newegg is nice, BUT there shipping is higher than the rest.. I would look @ alot of other places as well..
Like Directron or OutletPC.com .. You might get lower prices as well as cheaper shipping.. Just a thought..
 
Hi, upgrade to Quad core cpu will notice a big difference with the extra cores( possibly Q6600) excellent overclocker. Also upgrade the hard drive to a velociraptor, better seek time also read and write speed.
Would aslo upgrade the graphics card to Radeon 4890 because with your monitor you've got your gonna be using the highest resolution and ATI cards perform better than Nvidia on the higher res. And also the 4890 is excellent at overclocking you can push the core speed to 1000mhz

IMO, if you're building a desktop, don't get a 5400rpm drive. They're too slow.

Either get a 7200rpm, or 10000rpm.
 
Take at least a 7200rpm Harddisk, and take a 2MS monitor.

Take also a Quad CPU, they won't cost that much more, and it doen't need to be the best. A Dual-core is only good for now, you might want a Quad later on, so why not buy it now:-)
 
On the RAM issue:

if your going to have Windows XP as your Operating System
- 32 bit (normal) - it will only recognize RAM of 3gb unless you switch to XP 64bit

if your going to have Windows Vista 64bit, then all games will run...

so just note on XP, it will recognize only max of 3gb....
otherwise install Windows Vista 64bit...
