My graphic drivers are the newest one from nvidias website. Im not using the onboard sound i have a sound blaster live 5.1 sound card for the sound. My problem is I just formatted and reinstalled windows xp. Everythings back to like brand new. My problem is i cant play a game without just completey closing out and going straight back to the desktop. No error messages or nothing. It deos not matter what game but i will give an example for some... Madden NFL 06, Tiger Woods 06, Need for speed Underground 2, Call of duty, Call of duty United offensive, and every other one. If anybody can help me please let me know if you need more information i will be more than glad to give it to you thank yall up front for all the responses.
What are you temperatures at when these crashes occur? (try downloading speedfan if you don't know) Is there anything in the computer management event log? (right click on my computer>manage>event viewer)
Hey Ferg, I dont think my tempature is the problem. My Amd 3200+ is running at 125-30 degrees with a full load on it. Just running at desktop stuff around 110-115. There is a bunch of stuff in that folder u told me to look in here it is.... I hope you mean Fahrenheit in your temp ie. 125f - 51c 51c is by no means on the cool side but it isn't extremely high either i guess. What you want to do with the error log is look through (both the system and application logs) for events that match the time you are having these crashes. The fact that sometimes you can play for up to 20 mins in a game before this happens is making me think it may be a temperature issue, if your CPU is at 51c I'd like to see what temp your GFX card is at (speedfan might be able to do this, or nvidia's ntune software), can you check that the fan on your GFX card is running smoothly? What version of directx are you running? (start>run 'dxdiag') On re-reading your post i see you actually have the drivers for your nforce2 motherboard installed from the original CD - get these updated from Welcome to NVIDIA - Graphics Cards, Motherboards, Notebooks, Desktop PCs double check you are running the latest Graphics drivers at the same time.
OK my cpu is running at 49 C my GPU is running at 51 C my system is running at 28 C. Voltages CPU:1.6500V MEM:2.7000V HT(CPU-SPP):2088.8075V HT(SPP-MCP):11.9276V AGP:1.5000V The fan on the video card is running just fine and my direct x is up to date 9.0c. My motherboard is an NFORCE 2 ULTRA 400 and i cant find the drivers on nvidias website to save my life i dont think there on there. Hope this is some help to you
You are absolutely right, it seems nvidia have taken anything predating nforce4 off of their drivers page! I used to run 5.10 on my old nforce2 boards, here are some mirrors. Search Results for "nforce 5.10" (Windows; Sorted by Title; Page 1) - FindFiles.com Any luck with matching events from the log to the crash times?
Thanks for the drivers. Also yes there is after i got through messaging you last time i got two errors while playing madden 06. Error 10/1/2007 1:05:14 PM None 0 N/A COLBY-8B2A3D8E3 Error 10/1/2007 1:05:14 PM None 0 N/A COLBY-8B2A3D8E3 Also im downloading the drivers u sent me right now. I will try them out and let you. Also just for future refrence my BIOS is up to date.
If you double click on the error does it give you any more information? Sometimes you get a link to a M$ help page about that specific error. Here is an example from my machine: (mine is a warning actually but the same rule applies)
I installed those drivers you gave me. The game ran a little longer before it shutdown. Here is the event page ur talking about
Hmm that looks like this may take a bit of looking in to - i'm just heading out the door for the day, will try to solve this later on;
Well I'm afraid that error hasn't heralded me any success in further solving of your problem matey - sometimes they can quickly point to something but this time.. nada. The next thing i would start doing is stress-testing each part of your computer till/if something gives. I have a copy of PassMark BurnInTest software - PC Reliability and Load Testing that I use to diagnose clients PC's, the version I have certainly has a trial-period, perhaps the most up to date one does too? - this would test your memory,gfx,hdd,cddrvie,network and many other things to see if anything needs fixing/is on the way out. To stress test the GFX card further (if you need/want too) you'll be wanting a copy of Futuremark - Download (3dmark) The best individual test for just the memory is Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic Sorry that wasn't as helpful as I'd wanted, hope this brings you some results. Ferg
Ferg, I ran the burn in test software u gave me and it didnt come up with no results. Ran it 4 times to be exact. Also i already had memtest but ran it again so we could try to fix it lol nothing my ram passed. Then i downloaded benchmark 03 from futurmark and it ran it 1 time then it restarted my pc the second time i tryed to run it. So when it got back into windows i tryed it again. It restarted again. I go to my computer manage and eventlog it didnt LOG NOTHING LOL. Why me. LOL but when windows came back up it said this computer has recovered from a serious error. If you have anymore tricks up ur sleeve i will be very happy thank you for all uve done so far.
Bugger. Ok well next on the list for me would be to check windows for errors (type 'sfc /scannow') in the run dialog (Start>run) See if that picks anything up. And this has only been happening since you re-installed windows recently? Are there any yellow exclamation marks in the device manager? (right click on 'my computer'>manage - down to device manager)
Hey thanks ferg, Theres nothing wrong in device manager. Also i ran the command in run dialouge and it brought up this box that says Windows File Protection please wait while windows verifies that all protected windows files are intact and in thier wriginal versions. It took a while I tryed it twice. The first time it restarted my pc and I ran it again the second time it got through loading up that box then nothing else. So i think there might be a problem what do you think?
Well if it is a 'fresh' install I would certainly expect those files to be ok. Might sound like a bit of a hastle but something you could try is re-installing windows (if you don't have a spare HDD or partition to do this on then it may be ok to install it into the same HDD as you are running now - the installer should prompt you to choose a different install directory - I would usually just call it windowsx, make sure you don't let it format a drive with any of your data on!), get this done and only install GFX and MOBO drivers, install one of the games that is crashing out and see if it crashes out. This would take the windows installation out of the equation at the very least.
Sorry but one thing ferg after i did that sfc scan it wont run the games at all now i just tryed to play the games right after u sent ur last message before i do the reinstall of windows. So thats got me think what the crap it would atleast play them for a little bit now it just closes out instantly. well i guess im gonna go do that reinstall hope this works. LOL
Ferg, Sorry It has taken me so long to reply back to you. Thank you so much for your time and effort in helping me. I finally figured out my problem. The motherboard im using The asus a7n8x e deluxe motherboard had some issues and the problem was im running the amd athlon xp 3200 barton 400mhz fsb with ddr 400 ram. That is the most this board can run and it didnt like that much. What i mean is i had everything in bios set to AUTO. I had to manually config the bios myself instead of letting it do it for me. It wasnt liking havent to do it for me LOL. Well my friend thank you so much for the time and effort u have put in helping me. One more thing before i go my computer I have a 500 watt power supply. When i shut it down or turn it off by the power switch there is still my fans and some stuff running inside the case but its cut off. WHY? And is it hurting anything to just cut it off by the switch on the powersupply after i shut it down? there is a brand new powersupply if you have any info i will be more than greatly appriciated. thanks again.
