Seagate is generally concidered the most reliable brand, so if you're concerned go with them.

The X-Connect's from Ultra were a problem. I'm not saying the X-Finity's are necessarily bad, but I can't recommend a brand with known issues in the recent past. I don't know if this is just one of those products that happened to be unusually bad from an otherwise stellar lineup. What I do know is that the X-Connect's would explode if they were overloaded by even the smallest bit. Other brands, at worst would shut down and work fine after backing the load off. There's quality concerns with Ultra at this point in time. If I see that they come along and produce a good product for awhile without serious issues (there's always some minor thing that will pop up with any product). OCZ was the same way. The original owners were crooks and didn't produce products that would run at the advertised specs. After ownership and management changes go by with some quality products, they're now a highly recommended company. I don't think Ultra is crooked, but they simply haven't produced a product that I can tell people it's okay when it's blown up in two reviews---that's a very, very bad PR situation right there. Any product that fails (and I've not had that happen in anything I've reviewed, so far) is going to get a blacklisting. Epox is the same way as well: they've had a list of poor quality motherboards from the socket A era, and while I understand mistakes can happen, it was an on-going issue for such a long time that Epox needs to build up a history of solid products. Their 9NPA series motherboards have been the first that I've seen reviewers who've typically ripped the company a new one give them a thumbs up.
