i was talking to my friend (who is an xbox fan) (i am a ps fan) and i said that xbox will cost loads too, and then my freaind told me, it was only going to cost £160 to buy an xbox 360, can anyone confirm if this is actually true?
I can't confirm any prices for you but I think it will cost around £200 to £300 mark, as always we will pay more than the people in the U.S.A. I think the U.S.A price is set at $300 which is around £170, but I highly doubt that would be the price.
Still think about how cheap that is for what it can do, you could never build a computer for gaming nearly that cheap.
i read in a magasine the words 'Microsoft may plan to give them away if they have to' but i dont think that was meant to be taken literally, i think it was meant to mean, 'microsoft will sell them at rock bottom prices if they have to' so they can keep up with PS3 sales, although with the XBOX 360 being released before Xmas and before the PS3 they will have an early lead, (although i dont think that will last)
would be interesting to compare the prices, as for having a big lead over the ps3, the latest I heard was that it will be released in 2007, I think they need to launch in 2006!
I wouldn't expect to see 300-450 USD for the 360. the ps3 will be much more capable of things, c'mon it's microsoft...seriously...
2007, come on, there's way to much hype out for a console almost 2 years off. And they predict it will have a 10 year life span! That is going to be one run down console by 2017, the PS2 is looking pretty tired after less than 6. The problem is although the cpu is amazing the graphics card isn't that much better than a 7800GTX right? That can't hold up for a decade. BTW I read the decade thing on the Inquirer but it was from the works of some guy on the development team.
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm Technilogically it's on par, or even inferior to the PS3, it's just that it will be coming out sooner and will be priced lower that makes it attractive at the moment.
I guess you can dissregard what I said above, according to a guy on CNET it doesn't stack up too well: Xbox 360 vs. PS3 "There are three critical performance aspects of a console: * Central Processing Unit (CPU) performance: The Xbox 360 CPU architecture has three times the general purpose processing power of the Cell. Cell's claimed advantage is on streaming floating point work which is done on its seven DSP processors. * Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) performance: The Xbox 360 GPU design is more flexible and it has more processing power than the PS3 GPU. In addition, its innovated features contribute to overall rendering performance. * Memory System Bandwidth: Xbox 360 has 278.4 GB/s of memory system bandwidth. The PS3 has less than one-fifth of Xbox 360's (48 GB/s) of total memory system bandwidth." Whether or not he's right is up in the air but I have noted that people on this forum have been saying that the Cell processor isn't really the gaming beast it's said to be and with only 256Mb's or ram (really fast ram though) it's not looking so amazing. Blue-Ray would be the greatest perk at this point if you ask me.
