Is it worth the upgrade?

Wow, I had no idea it would come that cheap. Maybe I'm missing something here but that just doesn't seem possible when expected costs for premium were around $400. Either way if you do want to upgrade your computer would run it decently. It's good you have over a gig of ram and your processor will be okay, the graphical effects are pretty demanding though actually and a 6100 might not have the juice necessary but it wouldn't be a disaster.
The 64-bit version has been shown to be a waste of time and offers no desernable performance benifits as of this time. What it comes down to though is what you want Vista for? The unfortunate truth is by-and-large, this is not a substantial upgrade. There are some nice features but it's not going to revolutionize your computing experience by any means and many things like the security and backup features are not as retooled as we might have hoped. But for that price I'd be tempted myself just for the DX 10 funtionality.
 
Good point. I'm not likely to play any games that use DX10 yet so I don't think it's necessary. I'll stick to the original plan probably and get a graphics card.
 
Sweet dude, I think that just makes more sense. Vista, at least not yet anyway, simply isn't enough of an upgrade from the looks of it to warrent the performance loss.
 
If you want Vista, you might want to hold off. nVidia's driver support for Vista is in pretty sorry shape right now, and you might not see it until at least the end of this month according to an OpEd piece at [H]ard|OCP.
 
I've seen Vista Ultimate on Ebuyer for around £100 OEM. And no, I wasn't shopping for it! :D

As the others have said, it's probably best not being one of the early adopters as they are the ones who are discovering all the bugs. Personally I'd wait at least 6 - 12 months before considering the move
 
i think it might be that cheap because it says "This package must only be distributed with a fully assembled computer." maybe that means you have to buy a computer from them and then buy that at the same time. i could be wrong though
 
No, with OEM you can usually buy even a $.99 cent cable from most resellers.

I know officially your not supposed to get OEM pricing without a major purchase like a motherboard or processor but most resellers seem to bypass that to get a sale.
