Is my Viewsonic LG175 broken

Hi all,

For whatever reason, when I enter into POST either manually or if I see it briefly via system restart I know longer get a clean view of the text. Now, if I go to POST (via F8) the entire right side of the screen shows horizontal bars from the far right to about ¼ in towards the middle of the screen. Text is “pushed” to the left and mostly unreadable. However, after the systems boots completely and the current drivers take over, everything is fine.

I called Viewsonic and after giving them my serial number the guy promptly told me that I was out of warranty, that the unit was likely broken and that I should bring it in for service. The problem is that it just seems unlikely that it’s broken since it works fine after a full boot of the system, it’s only POST that seems to be having trouble.

I think it’s worth mentioning that POST was working fine yesterday.

Any thoughts?

Ok, i dont belive it will be your monitor, it sounds most likely something to do with the pc, it could be a faulty with the motherboard, when your in bios, just press the auto adjust button or whatever it is calles on your monitor and see if that does anything, try resetting cmos too, but i cant see what else it could be apart from mobo problem, with my computer, when i boot up, sometimes i get loads of little blocks all over the screen, proberbly something to do with the mobo.

That's interesting; I'll have to give that a try. I agree, if the monitor were broke I doubt it would function properly at all. Hopefully, this isn't a BIOS flash or Windows reinstall fix, both of which are outside my experience and level of expertise.
 
Well i shouldent think any of those things are something you will have to do, but if you do, just visit the forums again, and your sure to get some help :)

Went into BIOS first; for whatever reason, the screen here was fine, just like it was fine when under normal operations (full boot).

Then went to POST, did the auto-calibrate and it now seems fine. Everything is "almost" as it should be. I say almost because, for whatever reason, even though the text is now legible and positioned/sized correctly, there is a residual "waterfall" effect on this screen only. It sort of like like a thin sheet of water is falling down and making the text "wave" just slightly.

Now, it's NOT broken and everything is working fine, which is 99.9% of the game here, I mean really, how often am I going to use POST, it just seems strange. Just thought I'd mention it JIC there's something else to do here. It may be worth mentioning that I did nothing with CMOS.
