A friend of mine wanted to start java and wants to give the Sun exam in the future.
Does the Java programming certificate hold some kind of value or not? Second how should he start,... (kind of books)

Try looking for an online course with a Google search. I found this in about five minutes which looks pretty comprehensive. Hope that helps.
