LCD Question?

I was just have a couple of questions? first which is better (if any) wide screen or Not Widescreen? here is my example V7 19" 800:1 LCD Monitor - Wal-Mart Vs. Acer AL1916WAB 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black - Wal-Mart they are about the same price and one is wide screen and one is not. The second question is im looking for a new monitor, and i need some links to great ones that are under the 200$ range, i have a very hard time picking them, im looking for 19" (Widescreen or not, what ever one is best) thanks!
 
Widescreen is cool to have in my opinion, if you're a gamer than you might want to know not all games support widescreen resolutions; it'll either make you get a stretched image or it might require you to alter a setting in the game's configuration files to get it to work.

Depending on what your demands are you might go for a display with all thinkable bells & whistles which will make it cost more obviously. For playing games / watching dvd's having a lower response time is more important, lower response times will eliminate ghosting and if you're looking for monitors with low response times only than you'll find those between 200$ ~ 250$

The V7 display you linked to doesn't have info on it's responsetime where the Acer display does; 5ms. I personally use Acer display too with 8ms responsetime and I don't get any ghosting at that.

Will most of the newer games be able to support widesceen? im talking F.E.A.R, and Oblivion, and Crysis, Call of Duty 2, games like this, and i don't really watch movies on my Comp. So i don't have to worry about any extra bells and whistles that will makes movies better but im mainly worried about my Gaming, i want something that will run great with games and not have ghosting, i want it 19", and i still don't know if i want widescreen or full, but how much do u think something like that will cost?

yes go widescreen. Its only a matter of time before everything come around. Plus some game already support wide type displays. But it will definitely come around, it will be a very good investment, i wish i had gone with a wide display. On LCD quality, one of my friends is HUGE into displays and something he found that governs quality, is what the screen is made of, and when they get the screen in the manufacturing process. Samsung is a good choice as they make their own panels. I'm not talking about the TFT. XSGA, or whatever ether. I'll get to that later but, for now you want to look for something with a good contrast ratio, and a good response time. I would look at LG, as they have come out with some great displays recently.
List of LCD panel types used for models of monitors? this is a pretty good example of what i'm talking about for panel types. Also, its not a bad idea to try to get the best resolution possible, i like the 1680 x 1050 resolution. But back on gaming, look for something with a low response time really don't want anything higher than 8ms. And try to find something with the best contrast ratio. 1000:1 is good, anything less in ok, would not go any lower than 700:1 on that like i said above check out LG's displays.
 
I would also like to add a suggestion. Try to get a monitor with the resolution you intend on using the most. Sure you can change the res, but most LCDs i've tried/heard about look washed out when they aren't running in their native res. This is especially evident in games, things won't look sharp and clear. So, if your graphics card can't support the latest games on the higher resolutions smoothly, choose something that you know you can play comfortably. I would avoid buying something that you had to lower the res on.

The AL1916w?

I think its worth mentioning, i think that monitor only had a VGA input to the graphics card, so you will need a DVI to VGA convertor, i cant seem to get mine to work with the converter tho :\
 
Ok, I hope it will work, if it does then obviously its a driver issue with ATi thats making it not work for me.
 
well i have a PNY 7900 GS brand new, and i have never had any problems with it before so i hope it stay that way, but does anyone know if the 7900GS will be able to support 1400 X 900 or whatever widescreens are?
