LCD Repair? Samsung 2253bw - Any advice appreciated.

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone here with a bit of experience in repairing LCD's will be kind enough to give me some advice. I thought it would be best to ask around before going and ordering replacement parts.

I have two Samsung 2253bw monitors, which I was using in a nice dual monitor setup for about two years. Approxmiately two months ago, the primary monitor failed - here's exactly what happened:
  • Turn on in the morning, everything working normally for 5-10 minutes
  • Suddenly goes dim, there is _slightly_ more light coming from the lower right hand corner of the screen
  • Becomes progressively darker, eventually completely dark.
I used the secondary monitor (which as you may imagine had less use than the primary) after the first one went out, and yesterday the exact same thing happened to it.

Do I need to replace the backlight / CCFL? I've done some research about bad caps or inverters also possibly being the culprit, but I've never done any kind of monitor repair before.

If anyone would be able to point me in the right direction or link a resource on how to diagnose something like this, that would be so, so fantastic. Thank you in advance.

Sniper, thanks very much for the links - I had come across the second one there in a search. It seems that a lot of folks will have their monitors go on (and seemingly work) for a couple of seconds - in my case, they worked as normal for a few minutes when I turned them on in the morning, and then abruptly went dark. Turning them off/on doesn't result in a flicker or anything - they're completely dark now. I'd say they faded out over about 5 minutes or so after the initial problem occurred.

I'm going to hang tight and hope someone else may have some input as well. Thanks again!
 
n/p sounds like something is overheating or like you mentioned it could be the backlight. Hopefully someone else can help.
