lines appear on my monitor

after leaving my pc on for a long time i get lines on my monitor and i cant see anything on screen so i have to restart the pc i only started getting this problem when i changed my graphics card does anyone know why this happens
 
Sounds like your graphics card is overheating, but then I'm not sure why it would fix itself when you restart.
 
Im not sure really. Mine has a programme that tells you what temperature it is, but a card as old as a Radeon 7000 probably won't (as my 9100 didn't). If your motherboard has onboard graphics try them and see if it happens.

youre right it dosent but i removed the heatsink and put one on with a fan connected this worked fine for a couple of days but now i still get the same problem
 
And to add to what he said, be sure to clean off whatever's there first with some isopropyl alcohol first. Too much thermal paste will act as an insulator for the heat and give the opposite desired result.
 
Did this happen as soon as you got your new card or could it be that your monitor is broken? Try testing the monitor on another computer and another monitor on your computer.
 
does anyone think its easier and quicker to goet a new graphics card if so what would be best as i dont play games on my pc i just browse the internet and download stuff

theres a few places, yor local computer shop probably won't stock any but i found this, this, and this obviosly the last one is the cheapest so i'd probably get that but i'm on a very tight buget, if you ever need to remove it use some isopropol alcohol (available from your local chemist (you will probably be asked to sign the poisions book, just tell them your going to use it to clean off themal paste off a CPU, also get some cotton wool buds to help you clean it off)
