Looking For New Cpu, Mb & Memory

I am not a gamer but would like to assemble a desktop computer that's faster and better quality than the brand packages offered in computer stores. My recently deceased MB (last night, the SATA controller died) was a 9 year old ASUS P5B-E with an Intel core2 6600 @2.4GHz 32bit with 2GB DDR2 RAM. It served me well, but it's time to move on. I have some good quality peripheral equipment purchased over the years which I will be using. They include an Antec mid tower case with removable drive trays, an Antec SU430 HiPOT 430 watts PSU, a new 1GB Nvidia card , a new DVD/CD drive, a 120GB SSD for the OS system, and a Seagate Barracuda for data.

I am leaning towards a recently released fast Intel i3 but would consider a similar AMD CPU, but have no clue as to the model since there are so many of them. The RAM size considered is 4GB, but again no clue whether it should be DDR3 or DDR4. and need advice for a matching quality ASUS mother board. Can anyone please recommend some hardware? Thanks in advance.
 
What budget do have?
I believe anything based on Skylake requires DDR4. Skylake's predecessor, Haswell uses DDR3.

You may need to factor in a new power supply. With Haswell, some new power requirements were added, mostly regarding sleep states.
 
You have no idea how grateful I am for your reply. You just validated my thoughts which are on the same track. Also thanks for the reminder about DDR4 Power supply.

I am in Canada and so I am working with Canadian prices. I eliminated AMD and looked only at Intel. My known references for products are Intel, Antec, and ASUS, but know nothing of memory. Rather than list everything, I am attaching a text file with my findings. If you are still wiling to help, please look at the list and advise. I think I've done a lot of legwork to save time, and I am flexible about products as long as a product is reliable. My only concern is that the old motherboard is ATX form factor, and whether my mid tower Antec case accepts a mini ATX board. Budget wise I cannot go over $500. Thanks again.

I see no sense paying so much for dual core CPU (i3) that will become obsolete quite soon. On The Division i3-6100 loses even to FX-4320.

Also, you will not upgrade that i3 to i5/i7. Makes no sense because Intel processor prices won't get lower so when considering upgrade, better to buy new MB also.

So for those 3 options:

1. LGA1150 socket is already dead. Better to skip it. Also it does not accept DDR4.

2. Same as 2.

3. See beginning of my post.

As for i3 price you can get FX-8320/FX-8320E, I see no reason to get i3 dual core.
 
Unfortunately, FX-4320 is not sold in Canada, not by Newegg, or Amazon. AMD FD832EWMHKBOX FX-8320E FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition at CAN $193 is more expensive than the Intel.

If you can recommend a package of what would be your choice, Intel or AMD, with the right motherboard & memory, I would be most grateful. I trust your opinion.

FX-4320 was just an example. FX-4300 is somewhat equal and much cheapter than i3 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAA4Y3RT7291

FX-8320E is almost twice faster than FX-4300 on raw power. i3 should cost at most 100 dollars because it's dual core.

Since my work is Wikipedia and Wikisource related, mostly text and some image work with Irfanview, I decided to go with the FX-4300, because I can't justify the extra expense for my needs. Also, I must also buy a suitable power supply with which I am undecided. Currently, I am looking at this:

FX-4300 is good choice. Single thread performance is bit weak but modern software should use many cores.
