I have a system with an amd phenom 2 925 x4 OC'd to 4.1ghz a foxconn aloe motherboard 8gb of ram a generic ssd and a 450w psu that is nowhere near its limit with my current gpu which is a ATI Radeon xfx HD 5700 I'm looking for the best gpu I can buy that will work at full potential without being bottlenecked by the cpu motherboard or ram what would you guys recommend also I will be updating the ram specs soon
Which specific PSU? 450W doesn't mean much. Theoretically, it's probably fine, but not all are the same. If it came with your case, it's garbage and with the potential of a GeForce 1080, a good 450W would be a stretch, let alone a crappy one.
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/thermaltake-purepower-430w-np-power-supply-review/9/ Old-ish design, mediocre performance with the ATX 1.03. Most current PSU's are at least ATX 2.2 or 2.3. You can try, but it may very well not power up. If you're willing to drop $500 on brand new video card, why not $100 for a better PSU? A good 550-600W runs around that price and would allow you to enjoy that video card.
