Most reliable hard drives?

Hi, I am interested in buying a new hard drive, as I am almost filling my 320 Gig Seagate Baracudda drive, its been a great drive for the last 3 years and reliable too,

In my bad experience of hard drives failing (MAXTORS!!!!!) I would like a second hard drive to back things onto physically, and maybe leave it an option to install windows 7 to as well as I still prefer XP as my main OS like many people.

My question is, what are the most reliable hard drives to date? I'm willing to spend a fair amount and i want at least 500GB, preferable 1TB+, mainly because I believe these new big hard drives are built more reliably, must be SATA, suggestions?
 
yea, I know, I`m after a specific sata hard drive with SATA which is reliable, I`ve heard samsung are good?

True, but SSD's shouldn't be used to install operating systems just yet. SSD's have been known to perform wacky when you install an O/S on it. Currently, they should only be used for backup. So wait on it...

Western Digital are very good so are Seagate Barricuda's and they generally tend to have a 60-70mb/s read and write speed.
 
No to SSD drives. From a price standpoint, they aren't worth it if you're looking to "backup". As far as reliablity goes, go for the Samsung Spinpoint F2 Series (F1 had some issues) or the WD Blacks, which I believe have a 5 year warranty vs 3 years for the blue (business) and Green (low power) drives.
 
I have always been a western digital person myself, as both my hard-drive and external drive are running great. Though im not sure if im satisfied with the WD OS for my external, however i believe them to be super tough. I was considering going to a SSD as i would believe that their durability and longevity are suburb to the original way, but ill have to look into what issues an ssd would have with an operating system.
 
I know this is not the place for adverts, but could you recommend specific brands that have good external HDD series right now on the market? I'd like at least 500GB. Didn't want to open a new thread for this.
 
I can't actually tell you what is the "most reliable" HDD in the market since everyone has their own opinion towards the HDD they are using. Back when I was in college, about 10 years ago, we debated on which is the better HDD, Seagate or Maxtor. Now that there are other companies that are creating HDD, then the debate grew bigger.
 
Samsung and Western Digital HDDs are the best.. Seagate has good RMA service and customer support as well, but for me its like a 50/50 when you buy a seagate, you can get a great HDD or a semi-defective/defective one.
This one I like the most WD Caviar Blue 1 TB
