My first build, any advice on better and cheaper parts?

I'll be willing to wait for the motherboard to be in stock, since it seems to have alot of very good reviews
The thing that made me choose Amd over Intel was probably because, its cheap
in my opinion
And the OS i'll be using is probably Windows XP, Vista looks nice but too buggy

i also recommend a more powerful PSU, personally i have an Antec TP Trio 550W

be very careful selecting a PSU, because, the wattage a PSU give out doesn't mean anything, as i've heard of some crappy 500W generic PSU can power less stuff than a decent 350W PSU

BTW: i've never heard of ATRIX as a case manufacturer but i live over the pond from you

generally, PSUs that come free with cases are usually generic crap, take a look at Bs PSU Sticky for a list of good & bad PSUs

that motherboard looks impressive with all its fetchers, but, one the PCIe card may struggle to fit because of the southbridge heatsink (because those grx card are long) or you may need to aquire a slimline heatsink & fan for the southbridge

The mobos spec is nice but who the hell is BIOSTAR lol are they any good??????

please take a gander at this list and let me know what you think
Cooler Master case
EVGA 9600GT vid card
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherobard
G.Skill DDR2 800 ram
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro heatsink/fan
Corsair 450vx psu
Intel Pentium E2160 cpu
total on all that shipped is $573.51 USD

do you need a hard drive and a dvd drive? you didn't have them listed, if you do not need them I would upgrade the PSU to a corsair 520HX and or CPU to a E4500 either processor will overclock very well on that board both can reach 3.0 ghz fairly easily

just a couple of points about your suggestion dmbjohn:

the case has Firewire port but the mobo you suggested doesn't which is more like nit picking

i am cocerned that the PSU you suggested only has 1 12+ rail, which is a little worrying, but, the output of the PSU seems ok, but, i would be happier with dual or triple or even quad rails, as i said i have an Antec TP Trio 550W (which has triple rails)

No worries about hard drive or dvd drive, got those taken care of. Ive checked out the PSU and I'm thinkin about this one

Using one of my buddies account, Im still Pter

that PSU is better, but, it still only has 1 12v+ rail, but, that PSU seems quite good with 41A output on the 12v rail

good luck with it

Edit: and its ATX 2.2 compatible

yes the 450 is decent one and of the basics it is fine. I know a few peopel with it and they like it and say it works nicely.

for some reason I always forget about antec PSU's thanks for reminding me, that corsair 550VX is a nice one.

is the antec trio 550 a modular PSU?

corsair 520HX is a modular, I am thinking one for another rig of mine, my 620HX is just stellar

also seasonic and FSP group make internals for a lot of companys and their stuff is top notch also

is the antec trio 550 a modular PSU?
i don't think so, basically, i can't remember, cos i've had my PSU for a while

BTW: here is the Antec TP Trio 550W product details, i've had a quick look at the page myself but i can't find it

impressive setup,
For the CPU i'll be taking my dads old P4 Prescott 3.0GHz so that saves me some mula
As for the cooler, it looks like i wont need it
The Psu that Donkey has been talking about looks like the perfect match
