My laptop touch pad works perfectly when I put it on my lap or if I put my hand at the back of it. But when I put it on a table the touch pad doesn't work properly. I have tried to put the lap top on a metal plate and it doesn't work as proper. What could be the problem?

Try if it works "better" if you press it harder. If yes, then touchpad has some kind of contact problem.

Also try how it works when laptop is sitting on non-horizontal plane.

Have you tried a USB mouse yet ? Sounds like the touch pad is going bad..

That's sounds weird problem, get it check in service centre or use mouse a better option.
