We are renting the local greater union cinema, the distance from the projection room to the floor must be afew hundred meters. We have to use hand signals and hints in the microphone lol to get the next slide changed.

Anything that can go so far?

If you can get it on a wireless network, you could then use a laptop also connected to the wireless to 'remote control' the PC using software such as RealVNC. Check it out as there may even be a network (wired or otherwise) already in place. - if there isn't don't stress nowadays you could simply use two network plug adapters (that run a network across the existing power line infrastructure) - thus meaning ultra simple install & removal for when you leave Australia supplier here: PHDsites - Network

Also worth checking that the projector hasn't already been hooked up for remote connection from down in the seating - all the lecture theatres/auditoriums in my university were - the connectors were usually hiding underneath a metal plate in the floor!

Other than that if you were thinking of using an infa-red remote or alike, you'd need to get some IRDA repeaters and wire them in.
