need help with x600 pro

Hi, i recently purchased a radeon conect3D x600pro 128mb, and i am having problems with it, first of all my specs are athlon 64 3000, with 512 ram and a 400w psu.
The problem is my computer will randomly freeze with the new card in place, i have all the latest drivers and have deleted the intergrated drivers off my pc, this problem never occured when i was using my intergrated graphics, my first thought was my temps and they are all fine, then i thought mabey i have to disable my onboard graphics but cant find this option in my bios

You can check in the control panel to see if it displays your X600 for starters but I would guess that you're PSU isn't able to carry the burden of your processor and good video card. Though 400wt's may be adequate it may not be giving off enough amps. Look on the side of your PSU and you'll see a bit of paper with a bunch of numbers. Under +12v what number are you getting it should perferabley be 22A but 18 and above would do. Also how long have you had it and what brand and model do you have? Thanks man.
 
the number below +12v is 17a and the make is dragon and the model number is LC-B400ATX it was a cheap psu with a cheap case from a local computer fair, ive had it for 7 since april so not that long
 
It doesn't sound like a good PSU, best bet is to get a decent one, from Antec, ThermalTake, Tagan, Enermax and the like, find more information here and here
 
Q-Tec are probably the WORST PSU manufacturer there is, they sell these '650W' units in the knowledge they're not fit to even be a door-stop.
 
ok, ok i looked at the links, but do u have any sites to where i can get them, cause i can not see any, also with Xmas coming up im limited to about £30
 
Heh just posted that PSU in a previous thread, it's good but I'm not sure if it will be enough, it might be though, Tagan units are quality.
 
ok thanx, i guess im going to have to take the risk, alll i need connected will be graphics card, hard disk and only 1 dvd drive, so hopefully i will be able to pull it off
 
In the first PSU post I posted (the thread made by Big B) there's an explanation on dual 12V Rails, what it means (basically) there's 2 separate lines providing 12V, this means the stress is cut down on a single line trying to provide high amps. I don't think it's neccessarily (sp?) 2 12V connectors coming out of the PSU for CPU and graphics cards, it just means there's 2 rails providing 12V for everything. (correct me if I'm wrong, I myself don't fully understand the whole dual 12V rail thing)
 
The +5V rail seems to be a bit low though, I would have thought a few more amps on that rail would have been good.

i would be very thankfull, but im still not sure if this psu will run my mtherboard, cpu, graphics card, 2 dvd drives, harddrive, floppy and two case fans, as i am still confused on this 2 rails issue
