Netgear DG834GT and modem problems

hey i had a netgear DG834GT router and about a week ago went and got xbox live for my 360 3 days after doing that my router got seriously messed up now when i go to download anythink it will onlt only DL @ about 16KB/s ino it cant be my ISP because before i did xbox live i had a DL limit of about 220KB/s.
then my router pretty much just stopped all together which means im stuck using my old modem that my ISP gave me i dnt mind that cos next pay day im goin to get a new router bt the prob is that when i use the modem that is limited to about 16KB/s to all through out the day which is really frusirating because im a student and most nights i send loads to work to and from my student drive on the colleges network which is a pain the ass now cos its to slow.
and finally does anybody have any help on how i could get my DL speeds up again?
and if it help my BB line is up to 3 megs my ISP is homecall now owned by pipex

First I'd go through all of the usual ADSL troubleshooting steps. Make sure there aren't any lines which don't have filters, except for the ADSL Modem itself, of course. Try different patch cables if you can, as a kinked cable can cause all sorts of problems.

Whatever you did to it while setting up your XBox was probably what caused the issues to begin with. If you can "undo" that, you'll probably solve the problem. The best way to do that is probably to just reset your router to factory default and reconfigure it from scratch.
