network hiccup

I have a PC(OS=XP) wired to a linksys router/gateway(WAG54GS),works well,I have added a notebook wireless (OS=Vista). Notebook works well, connects to internet but PC and notebook cant "see" each other,therefore cant share files. I have added IP addresses to "trusted sites" on respective machines and made sure the "discover other computers" is enabled on Vista notebook. They can both 'ping' each other, but only the router is shown on the network on both machines,Windows firewall Off on both. where am I going wrong.

although i have heard about connecting 2 or more systems together using a router, personally i don't know how to archive it, maybe Network Magic would help[ot]i found network magic invaluable when i used XP[/ot]

Hmm, perhaps you may have to do something within your router's controls and settings?

i tried tweaking settings, to no avail, will have another go a linksys support. thanks for suggestions--- any more would be great

Have you shared a folder on both computers? What permissions have you applied to those folders?

I shared folders and applied necessary permissions,(I believe) Out of desperation I've downloaded and installed Network magic,It seems a cheeting thing to do --but works perfectly--instantly shows all folders,connection etc,so can do all I want,Unfortunately windows still cant see other machines, wonder if its something to do with vista, as my 2 XP PC can "see" each other.

If you can ping the computers then you should also be able to fully access each of them as long as the accounts have passords. running '\\<computer name here, or computer IP>\c$ (if you wanted the root of C) that always brings up the user name and password for me and it's how I acces anthing on my networks, I find network neighbourhood type things in windows terribly slow and unhelpful.
