Network problems.

Big Geek
I have set up a network between a desktop and a laptop - both running XP, and even got the printer on the destop to work from the laptop!

However, I can't access folders that are on the desktop from the laptop - error dialog box tells me that I don't have the required permissions, etc.

Any ideas what's going on?

Thanks,

David

Check your firewall, if you're using ZoneAlarm disable it as I had many problems with Windows file sharing because of it.

The only firewall I have, other than what's on my router, is the XP Firewal - which I disabled, but it made no difference - still can't access folders on the Desktop.

Just a thought - my XP laptop is formatted in FAT 32, and the Desktop in NTFS - could that affect file sharing across the two machines?
