Yea I put some of that in a computer thats about to come back to me. Mine was DDR2. Pretty good stuff.
No DDR2 for AMD, and there is no forseen launch date for this either, the Geil is great for the price and if you really do want to get some serious overclocking in but you don't want to spend much money I imagine it would serve you well. Though the latency leaves a lot to be desired it's not uncommon for memory of the speed.
after more adjusting (downgrading lol) this is what the system looks like: ----------------------- $84 | Antec Solution SLK1650B Black Steel ATX Mini Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply – Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129150 ----------------------- $150 | AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103536 ----------------------- $111 | EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard – Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813123236 ----------------------- $55 | HITACHI Deskstar 7K80 HDS728080PLA380 -0A30356 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA II Hard Drive - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145082 ----------------------- $43 | SAMSUNG Black 16X DVD+R 4X DVD+RW 5X DVD+R DL 12X DVD-R 4X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 40X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827151066 ----------------------- $167 | Leadtek PX6600GT TDH Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122201 ----------------------- $96 | Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retailhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141423 ----------------------- $45 | Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 80mm Ball Cooling Fan/Heatsink – Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835106036 ----------------------- Total: $750.00 mostly these are based on anandtech reviews and your suggestions im posting these as i think they make a pretty decent budget gaming system, and i hope they help someone else out as well. the idea is that, the hardware will be good enough for the 350w psu that comes with the case, and it will also give me a little room for slight overclocking. cheers
thats not really a budget system in specs but will make you very happy to say the least, but when you can afford it get a better PSU!
yea im just going to see how the case psu looks. cause i saw a few comments saying that they actually upgraded it. its a 24pin psu now, with 2 separate 12V rails - 1 with 10A and the other 15A. if that doesnt look good enough... i might go for a... Thermaltake Silent PurePower TT-420AD(DUAL FAN) ATX 420W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, CSA, TUV, CE – Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153006 ...in the near future. but im not sure how much better that would be, cause it just has a single 12 v rail of 18A. but i guess its still better cause its 420w, instead of 350?
that thermaltake one would be perfect, but its not all about wattage its about how 'clean' the power is too, for example i saw a PSU that someone wanted to buy and it had a single 37Amp rail, thats pretty powerful! but good luck with your persuits!
is there any reason for a dual 12v rail, if my gfx card doesnt need a separate powerline to it anyways? i mean, what else can the 12v rail plug into?
To put it simply the 12V rail is not literal, its not a seperate plug it provides 2 virtual routes of power to the components, make sense? eg, the comp will use the first rail and when that is exceeded the second rail kicks in to provide more power! Im pretty sure thats the best i can explain it!
The Thermaltake looks great, go with that as it's a great deal. My rig probably comsumes about as much or more power and I only have 17A on the 12v rail.
so then would you still reccomend that i upgrade the psu ex? the one with the case is 350w, w/ 2 12v rails (10a, 15a)
id recommend to up the PSU it'll perfrom around 250-300 on full load and definately will not provide enough power in my opinion id recommend a 450W and up PSU, by a good name so theres no risks :good:
There's little difference between a 450w and 420wt psu so I say upgrade to the Thermaltake as it's a very good value. I should perform better than the Antec as the dual rails are lacking high amps.
The Antec with the case is probably better than the Thermaltake. But I would still recommend you up the PSU, but theraltake is not where I'd go.
the case psu should be good enough for me to run everything at stock - right? i feel like i will not oc or anything and let all the parts "burn in" for a while and then maybe in a month of 2 get a new psu and then experiment haha.
it might but its not assured, or recommended by us, it seems like a small amount of power for that many good parts
Antec has some of the better psu's, I can be pretty sure you're system will not require more than 250wts so you have some clearence. If you want to save a bit of money in the short run buring it in won't hurt. You may be so satasfied with the performance you won't care about overclocking.
thanks all, quick q: the 420w thermaltake psu has 2 fans, are both exhaust or is one intake, and one exhaust? if so, which is which? for the pic, it looks like it has a fan in the back, and a fan on the bottom towards the cpu. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153006 thanks.
as your on the subject of power supplies, what about the q-tec ones, does anybody know if they're any good, they are cheap which is a concern of mine as this could mean cheap parts/bad build quality and could lead to more system crashes, i need something along the lines of a 450-500Watt unit for future upgrades as well. My 300Watt just cant cut it with verious fans coolers, lights, 2 optical drives, a hard drive a PCI saudigy sound card and basic geforce graphics card (plus mobo, cpu and ram) If not then i'll splash out the money for one of the tagan 480Watt units.
