Hello everyone, i just joined today, wanted some feedback on my new machine please..

CPU : Core 2 Duo 33.0ghz E6850
RAM : 2gig
Ballistix 240-pin DIMM DDR2 PC2-8500

NON-ECC

128Meg x 64
HD : 250 gig Maxtor 7200rpm SATA
: 300 gig maxtor 7200rpm SATA
PSU : 750 watt thermaltake toughpower
GPU : Nvidia 8800 GTS 640MB
OS : Windows XP Pro SP2
Mouse : Razor Diamond Back
FireW : ZoneAlarm
AV : AVG Antivirus

can you tell me if these specs are good? i use my computer for gaming mostly, just wanted your thoughts please

Sounds like a winner to me! Should play almost any game you want it to. You may find yourself upgrading to SLi in the future, but if it works fine and you get good frame rates (which you should be getting now) you are all set. Also, games these days tend to be more and more RAM hungry, but you should be set with 2GB's. Are those HD's SATA III?
 
hi, thanks for your comments, the hard drives are SATA 2, is there any performace to be gained by getting SATAIII?

Well looks good in all, should run most if not all games, but you could try going to the e6750 which is close to $100 difference for a very little change in the performance. But either will work.

i haven't used kaspersky but have heard it is very good, i have always stuck with AVG, i just like its ease of use and GUI. is Kaspersky better than AVG?

I did look at the e6750 but i has the extra money at the time decided to buy the e6850. i suppose your are right though i could have save some money on it and not noticed the performce drop.

im glad you guys think its a good pc, took me ages to research all the parts, im happy now.

Well, actually Kaspersky never stuck on my system. I think on any AV performance depends on the systems' performance. Normally Kaspersky runs on low memory well.

Always try to find the best performance on money you paid. :P
 
To answer your question about SATA, no I have the misfortune of "upgrading" to SATA III [from PATA!] and I really havn't seen much of a difference on any benchmark programs. Maybe a couple of Megabytes/sec. faster. There are however, faster load times for games. I don't think you need to worry about anything though. It's only a few seconds faster- if that.
