new hard drive problems

I just got a new Seagate 250GB serial ata hard drive.
I transfered all my data to this drive.

When I play music files or video files from this drive, they sound like they start to break up or stutter. It happens alot more when data is being accessed from the drive or written to it. It seems like the drive is having a hard time sending data. I think the drive might be physically damaged.

I have another seagate 250GB serial ata hd (exact same model) that I have had no problems with. The only thing now, is that when I'm writing to or accessing data from the new drive, and have a song playing on the old drive, I get the same staticy, breaking up or stuttering sound. When I stop using the new drive, the old drive works fine.

The reason I think this is physically damaged is because the day I bought the drive, someone hit me on the way home (in my car) and the drive (that was sitting on the seat) ended up on the ground.

Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thanks.
 
It could well be damaged, if I were you i'd use Seagaes excellent RMA service. Go on the website and register for the RMA, then you can request an RMA. Once its been accepted you send the drive to the address listed and within a week or so you'll have a replacement drive.

I've done this before, so ask any questions if you have any.
 
I've not dealt with Seagates RMA policy before (haven't really had Seagate drives), but I know some companies want to know an error code, so you might want to run Seagate's diagnostic tools. If you don't have them, you ought to be able to download them off Seagate's site.
 
thanks for the advice. I have run the seagate diagnostics and it said it was error free. I dont know, maybe the read/write heads got damaged?

Anyway, since the accident was not my fault the other guys insurance is paying for a new hard drive ;)
