Noobish question about DVD-RW

Having never done this, nor could I even if I wanted to I have no idea about rewriteable DVD media. Basically all I want to know is lets say I burn a DVD with 700 mp3's, then I get a few dozen more mp3's and want to add them to the same DVD, would I have to burn all the 700 songs all over, just to have the new ones included on the DVD. Or would it reconize that they already existed on the DVD and just burn the new files. I realize this is a stupid question but I'm curious. Thanks.
 
Nope rewritable discs need to be erased before you can write again to them unless you use multisession. If memory serves, multisessioning a disc means that ou make one session on which you have data on, and then when you want to add files you don't actually append the data to the end track, you write all previous data plus the new data so you end up with wasted space on the first session where you had your first batch of data.

This is ok for small files, but if you're burning mp3s you'll need to erase the disc and rewrite them as there won't be enough room for the first batch along with the second with more mp3s.
 
Thanks dude, that's too bad, I figured that was the case but wasn't sure. I only have a CD+/-RW burner anyway so I wouldn't be able to do it anyway. One good reason to get a mp3 player over a CD player, though it's been that way for years.
 
you can create multi-session discs like addis said. I've used them quite a bit but they can only be read on the computer that they were started under or a computer with the software needed to realize what to do with it until the CD has been closed then it can be read from anything.
 
i havent reli used discs... at all, but jus a question, how do you make them multi session or ROM? from like CD-RW, cuz itd be cool to get all my utilities antivirus spyware and registry mechanics on to a disc and make them .exe's
 
To make them ROM you need to finalize the disc. You need to close the current session and then you won't be able to write to the disc again.
 
I can't think of the exact name, and it might be the multisession thing, but I know that Nero and EZ CD Creator have a program in each software suite that basically makes the CD/DVD disc into a 'hard drive' in a loose sense. Obviously, you need an RW disc for this function, but that might be what you're getting at.
