whenever i try to tune my system the whole thing just freezes, im currently using vista but when i used xp and did the same thing it went without a hitch. any ideas on what to do?

Maybe Vista doesn't support the chipset or a related component.

all my hardware was recommended for vista from the place i bought it

The drivers of nVidia aren't yet fully compatible with Vista. I think you'll need to wait for updated drivers.
EDIT: nVidia made a big mistake by placing the Vista Ready label on their products, but their drivers are crashing all the time on Vista.
