Within the bios settings i managed to use the nice and easy overclock option upto 20% but it has had no apparent effect when i have checked the speeds.

I was wondering if anyone else has used a similar type motherboard that could shed some light on the situation. My cpu temps are stable at less than 35 degrees and about the same for the motherboard.

I also have 2 sticks of 512 kingston memory running. ;)

Any help would be great
thanks

It sounds like you've used adaptive overclocking instead of the manual method which is also possible with the A8V series.

Adaptive overclocking raises the clock speed whenever the system demands it, therefore you'll not notice higher clockspeeds when your comp is idle.

If you're planning to overclock your processor you should do it manually, since the automated features the A8V series provide don't work too well. I.e. I always used the auto oc 10% feature, but when I tested my system by running stability tests my system ended up not 100% stable.

There are some good tutorials available here on HWF, just check the sticky
thread by BigB in Overclocking & Cooling.
