Big Geek
im thinking about buying an OEM 36.7 raptor drive from newegg. i havent bought anything oem before but ram...so i was wondering how this sata raptor drive will be setup..and the things i need.

I have heard the sata drives are like plug and play, and u dont need to configure any jumpers like in pata drives...but i see there are jumpers on the back anyways. what are these jumpers for on the back of the sata drives?

What do u guys recommend me using to setup this oem raptor drive once it arrives, because im used to buying a retail package with software to configure the hdd automatically and comes with the cables n such.

Plz tell me what i am missing:

SATA cable
Molex power connector

thx

All you need to hook up the drive are the SATA cable and a SATA power adapter. The latter doesn't seem to come in retail SATA HDD packages anyway. With the jumpers, there should be a list of all jumper settings on the drive itself.

As far as the setup goes, you'll need to make sure the SATA controller on the motherboard is enabled for starters and that the driver for it is installed. If you want to install Windows on the Raptor, you'll need to have the drivers for the SATA controller on a floppy disk to feed the Windows setup. Formatting can be done with Windows. You do not need extra software. If you really want it, you should be able to download it from WD's site.
