Partitioning my HDD

Ok i tried this;

>downloaded
>burned
>booted
>>selected top option 0.3.4.11 (auto-configuration)???
>>selected british english as language
>>it carried on doing a load of stuff (loading keymaps? and stuff)
>>i got a signal on my montior "signal over range"

I'm not sure what this CD is even trying to do so i have no idea haha (PC security/safety buffs wouldn't like that :chk:)

but yeah any ideas? and is this CD sorting out my partition or installing linux? :)

well the LiveCD you booted is only loading the OS & then Gparted, try downloading it from Sourceforge

BTW: it's normal to choose the language & keymap

anyway, it sounds like either your monitor can't display res: 1280x1024,

what resolution is your gfx & frequency (probably 1024x768 & between 60+75Htz)?
 
yeah 1024 x 768 and my monitor can change to 1280 x 1024 (it's in the display options to change to that resolution so i'm presuming it can)

My gfx frequency is 75Hz

EDIT: so if i understand correctly i need to boot linux and use GParted to resize my partition? Is GParted only usuable by Linux?

:good:, change your res to 1280x1024 @ about 60 or 61 Htz, to verify your monitor can achieve the res & freq

Windows automatically restores your previous res after about 10 seconds if the res doesn't work, so don't worry

yes, that's why your booting the Gparted Linux distro, Gparted LiveCD automatically loads Gparted allowing you to make the necessary changes to your HDD[ot]don't worry, the only reason i'm so comfortable with Gparted is because i've used it so much & never even tried to find a manual for it, it's that easy to use[/ot]BTW: Gparted is v easy for anybody to use[ot]& after you've resized your partition with Gparted, you can say you've used Linux[/ot]

yeah well i've changed the res to 1280 x 1024 and frequency 60Hz, in fact i'm writing this with it now :x:

so what do i do now? try booting the disc again with this frequency and res? :)

yeah, just use your own common sense Linux is hard to use for a n(00)b when you use it 24/7, but using Gparted is dead easy

BTW: you won't need a "how to", just do it
 
Got it to work by taking my graphics card out (DVI port on it).

Fail.

Only showed one partition which was 74.5 and wouldn't let me do anything with it.

If i find this screenshot i supposedly made of it i'll show you what it said.

BTW: exactly where does it say Vista is using 40GB
 
The picture i posted previously says 40GB straight after i install it onto the HDD after having wiped the HDD.

yeah, Maxtor is make, but Seagate tookover Maxtor a few years ago & the manufacturers model number (starting with "ST" indicate the HDD was manufactured by Seagate) the main difference between Seagate & Maxtor HDDs is: Seagate HDDs use a kind of gel bearing, anyway,

SCSI = Small Computer System Interface

BTW: i'll diagnose later, must go out soon
