ok so last week my power supply in my pc went out. I bought a new coolmax 700 w psu today and installed it. LED's come on the MB but it wont power up. we have a very old dell desktop sitting in the attic so i took the PSU from that( its rated 300 W) and connected it to the board. bam. it starts up. Ive tried switching the psu switch on and oof plugging it back in, reconnecting the motherboard. I did have some trouble getting the 20 pin + 4 connectors in. I imagine because it was brand new. I have never replaced anything in a computer before. But i figured i could do this. Im having the same problems with this new psu as i did with the one that went out. Surely its not a bad one. Any tips.
specs :
coolmax 700 w psu
asus p7h55 MB
intel i3 processor
4gb ram
radeon graphics card (nothing special)
my old psu was rated 500, the super old one i stole from the dell was 300 so i know its not a wattage issue.
help me please. Im so frustrated.
edit:
the old psu that went out is a 24 pin. that wouldnt make a difference would it? the only thing i can think of is that its a bad psu or i dont have it connected to the board well
