PC Powers Off On Boot

Hi all, been awhile..

This afternoon i'm going to pick up a Shuttle PC that was used for graphic design - P4 3Ghz // 2GB Ram // 256MB Grphx Card // 80GB HDD, anyway basically it turns on but quickly powers straight back off.

Obviously this is hardware related, and when i get hold of it i can test it against another P4 Shuttle I have lying around at home. But just wanted some opinions.. I presume the most likely culprit is either: CPU or PSU.
 
Very strange problem, yea i would suspect that its the PSU, is everything standard in this Shuttle PC do you know? or has it been Upgraded?
 
Hardly a strange problem, quite common actually, no it has not been upgraded, even if it had, it would make no difference to the problem at hand.
 
No, the reason i was asking is because if it had been upgraded with better Hardware such as better GPU, it might of caused more power draw and been too much for the PSU.

I though Shuttle PSU's were supposed to be really good, thats why i said strange.

How old is this Shuttle PC your getting?
 
Right recieved it and been testing today it's a Shuttle SS59GV2 (an Intel 775 Socket with compatibility for Dual Core Processors) - AGP8x.

It's running:
Radeon X1600 Pro 128MB
2 x 1GB Memory (although one does not work so its only running @ 1x1GB)
80GB Sata
DVDROM
Card Reader
3.0Ghz P4 775 Socket

A shuttle shouldnt have any problems with this at all.

Anyway using another machine i've deduced that:
- One memory piece is faulty (this has now been removed)
- The graphics card is fine
- The hard drive is fine
- The DVDROM drive is fine
- The PSU is fine

The only two components I cannot test are the CPU & Motherboard, as my other SFF pc is a 478 Socket and so I cannot test the 775 socket in it obviously.

I tested the Shuttles PSU on my other Small Form Factor machine (no problems), tested the memory in my other machine (no problems - except one was faulty - now removed), the graphics card was tested and ran fine, the hard drive and DVD Rom were fine.

I even replaced the CMOS battery with a new CR2032 Lithium battery as i've found this to cause a similiar problem before if faulty. - no luck.

The PC powers on perfectly without any signal errors / beeps for aproximately 6 seconds and then powers straight off.

What do you think I should do? - Do I buy a new Shuttle barebones and stick the working components in it or do i just chuck it and flog the spare parts (not really worth doing).
 
Come to think about it, i would now think that its a Motherboard problem, my last motherboard was faulty and whilst my PC booted and worked, it randomly shut down and in games too even shorter time to shut down, and i replaced the whole ocmputer except for the mobo before finding out it was the Mobo.

Buy a new shuttle barebones could be the best option, but maybe just a new motherboard? i guess its using a micro ATX right?
 
Have you tried Barebones method???

Take out the Mobo from the Case...
Leave it with CPU
1xRAM
1xHDD
Video Card (if onboard isnt available)
Short the pins with a Flat head screw driver and see if it powers up..:unsure:
 
That does sound like a heat issue to me, especially with the lack of beeps. I'd definitely recheck cooling for proper seating and that the fan is running.
