possible weird psu problem?

so heres the situation. last night i kept my computer on, and this morning i woke up to find my computer off and unable to turn back on. normally i would assume this to be a dead power supply and move on, but this is the second time in the past 3-4 months that this has happened.

what i have realized now though, is that when i turn the toggle switch on the back of the power supply to the off position for a few moments then toggle it back on, if i press the power button the computer i will get power for a couple moments before it shuts back down. it also seems that the longer it is switched off, the longer it will stay on once i power it up.

like i said this is the second time and im starting to grow tired of replacing these things. if anyone knows whats going on here or has any suggestions for me i would appreciate it.

what are your system specs ?
what make and model of PSU ?

this is what was currently running in my machine

GIGABYTE GA-K8NSC-939
amd 3500+ venice
ati radeon 9800pro 128
1gb corsair value select
250gb western digital caviar HD

as for the power supply, here is the info i have on it-

17 amps on the 12v rail for that spec is pretty low. you shud get be aiming for about 24-26 amps min. as for the psu, i've personally never heard of it, but it sounds good because of the 'gamers edition' but i pretty much doubt it. i guess it is not one of those comparable to antec or enermax. i wud think it is a psu problem as the psu is overheating. touch the outside of the psu casing and feel the air that is coming out. is it really hot after uv been on it for a while or until the pc swithces off. if it is, then i wud try a psu, i wud try a psu anyway if u can get hold of one.
 
with that sort of spec i would recommend the Antec SP 2 or as
izzy suggested the enermax brand or ask the PSU god (Big B) because i think your PSU may be underpowered
 
well, that is pretty much the one thing i did not want to hear haha, but i appreciate the help anyways. i guess its time to buck up and purchase a decent power supply. thanks guys.
