problem with IP address

Every time i connect a games console up to my computer,it refuses to connect up,saying things about not being able to find my IP address and my IP address not working.im hoping to buy an xbox 360 soon and i wont be able 2 play anyone online if i cant get my xbox hooked up to the internet! if anyone can give any advice or ideas,it would be much appreciated.

Um. Difficult. You probably have to muck around in your router's browser-interface-"control panel" to sort this out, I think. (I'm assuming you have a router?) It's hard to give any advice without more details, like, for example, what your router's control says about it.
