Problem with my HD4870 Video Card

Hey everyone. Perhaps you can help me. I built a computer that i use and have had it just over 2 years. For some reason, for the past 3 or 4 months, i would get a bunch of dots on the screen. blue, magenta, some black. I cleaned out my computer, reseated my video card and its all the same. Now it sometimes has the dots, and sometimes it don't. I don't know if its the video card or what? I been on a few forum boards and they say my card is overheating, but i have PLENTY of circulation going through. Please help!!! By the way, i just started playing a new baseball game 2k11 and i got long black streaks in the screen going from the batters box to the outfield.

2 standard Hard Drives, 1 320 GB, 1 250 GB
Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit
 
I had the same problem with a new RADEON 6970 your card is dying i suggest you try to reboot you computer and see if it loads up if it is try to update drivers if not

It boots fine. I updated the graphics card and still the same. I can watch movies on Netflix and Hulu just fine. Its just when i play like World of Warcraft or Rift or some other video game, i get the dots all over the screen
 
What are the temperatures of all the parts in your computer? Also, it seems that your graphics card is rather outdated and worse than your other parts, like your CPU or motherboard. You might want to consider upgrading to a 68xx/69xx.
 
I downloaded Real Temp and it shows my CPU Temps are 38 34 40 37... My Video card Temp with Fan at 100% running for the past 2 hours at 48. These are all without anything else running. I think i am just going to go to Best Buy this weekend and buy something that will hold me over. Now granted you think my video card is outdated, and it might be, But i have my computer hooked up to a 32" 720p TV and all the games i can play at max settings and it doesn't even hiccup (I don't play Crysis!). So i don't need a top of the line Video Card.
 
Your CPU temperatures are decent, nothing to look out for, but 48 degrees celsius on your graphics card while idling? Wow. It's probably overheating.
As for suggestions for your new graphics card.. I would get the one I'm using ATM, the Gigabyte GB-N98TSL-1GI with a GeForce 9800 GT in it. It's barely over 105 euros/145 dollars/90 pounds, it runs great, never had any problems with it. Comes with 3 copper heat regulating pipes, and loads of heat regulating fins on it. The only downside would be that it's rather big, but as for a medium gaming graphics card, it's a great choice.

Agree with you. 48 degree isn't so high, but it's a bit unusual when idling... I still wouldn't rule out that it's a monitor/cable issue. If there's any way you can test out a friends VGA, since your board doesn't have onboard graphics, that would be a great start. Or even if you could try out another monitor with a different cable.
 
Exactly. Best thing would be to borrow someone's monitor, and possibly that person's VGA-cable too. If it still gives you the same dots you experienced with your own monitor/cable, I'd suggest you get a new graphics card.
